Iranian director Marjan Ashrafizadeh’s ‘Abji’ (The Sis) has gone on screen at the 20th edition of the Brooklyn Film Festival in the US.
Ashrafizadeh’s first feature film made its 8th international presence on Tuesday, June 6 at the Syndicated Theater in Brooklyn, New York.
‘Abji’ narrates the story of two women who have lived together for more than 50 years, but the situation doesn’t remain the same and the separation time arrives.
Co-written by Marjan Ashrafizadeh, Ali Asghari and Nahid Tabatabai, the movie deals with the issues related to women and the difficulties they face in life.
“Tala and Ati (Sis) are a mother and daughter who have lived together for many years; almost 50 years, as long as the life of Sis. Their situation, however, does not last long, and the days of separation arrive. The separation happens when Sis depends heavily on her mother due to her special conditions, and Tala is trying to provide security for Ati's future in the remaining time; a future without her presence,” its synopsis reads.
‘Abji’ won the best feature film award at the 4th edition of the Afghanistan International Women Film Festival.
Golab Adineh, Masoumeh Ghasemipour, Pantea Panahiha, Hamidreza Azarang, Babak Hamidian and Shirin Yazdanbakhsh are the main stars of ‘Abji’.
